Steam Engines
Sign up to learn the principles of how steam engines work and experience a day’s work first hand. The course invovles learning how to light the fire correctly and monitor its progress through to a full head of steam prior to trudging off to work the field. You will also learn where to put the oil and how to take on water. Included in the day is a ploughman’s lunch eaten in a traditional living van which would have been towed behind these great engines as they moved from farm to farm.
If you sign up for this course you are guaranteed to want a look around the farm at all the other vintage engines and implements about. All courses are made suitable to your own level of experience from beginners to the more experienced engine driver. Sturdy footwear and clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty are the order of the day, oh – and waterproofs!
